About Seaspension
Continued from HOME page:
Peter initially started another company in Largo in 1999, where most of the effort was spent developing the Seaspension® product lines. Extensive testing, both in real-time sea conditions and in the lab, was done to ensure that a strong, but lightweight and reliable product developed.
Seaspension Technologies, Inc. was founded to channel all the previous resources into today’s premier shock-mitigating systems for boat seats. Granted, there are some other products out there, most of which were designed specifically for military purposes or came from the trucking industry, but we like to say that dollar for dollar, pound for pound, we offer the best performance of any marine shock mitigating system.
Seaspension®: Reduces jolts through the legs and back; Absorbs shock-waves and repeated pounding; Reduces boating fatigue; Increases your boating pleasure; No more standing to feel secure; Engineered for maximum comfort.
![]() | Peter Burer is the President of Seaspension Technologies, Inc., based in Largo, Florida. Drawing on 25 years of entrepreneurial spirit, he started Seaspension Technologies to further promote, market and develop shock-mitigating products for the marine industry. Peter graduated from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., where he received a B.A. in 1981. While attending the university, he earned his Private, Instrument and Commercial Licenses, single engine airplane. Upon graduation, he took over leadership of existing, as well as initiated the development of a new computer service center in the Washington, DC area. Searching for new and exiting challenges, Peter moved to Florida in 1987 and started a company servicing the apartment rental community. Although the business was growing, another opportunity arose in 1991 to export motorcycles to his old mother country – Holland. This developed into a retail facility there, as well providing the growth resulting in sending container loads of motorcycles to other dealers, both in Holland and Belgium. Further opportunities arose to open up a facility on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten to furnish both motorcycles and convertible cars there. In 1999, Peter changed career direction, and learned the art and skill of the invention and new product development business. It was after riding in a go-fast boat that he realized that people got hurt due to exposure to shock loads experienced while traveling at high speeds. He focused on developing high performance, affordable shock-mitigating products for the recreational, commercial and military markets. He earned the first of his 4 patents then, with several more patents currently pending. Shock-mitigation is a relatively new discipline for the marine industry, which Peter enjoys being a key contributor in. Peter is married to Kathryn, and enjoys raising their 2 grandchildren Izabella and Sydnee. When not inventing or developing new products, which are his passion as well as his ambition, he enjoys fast boats, riding and customizing his motorcycle, and spending time at the beach. Peter practices Christian faith principles at his company to help our fellow man and is a member of Warehouse 727, a non-denominational church in St. Petersburg. He serves on the leadership council and is team leader of Project Go (Guatemala outreach), a missions group to help the local missionaries and people of Guatemala. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois in Metallurgical Engineering and currently obtaining his Master’s in Business Management at Florida Metropolitan University. Over the past 20 years, he has held certifications in quality engineering, ISO9000 auditing, non-destructive and welding inspection. He has proven expertise in high volume production, heat-treating, welding, corrosion, alloy design, statistical process control, dimensional inspection and failure analysis. Greg began his scientific career managing chemical/metallurgical laboratories in the iron foundry and steel fabrication environment. He performed the analytical tests required for qualification of the product designs and control of the special processes. The industry relied on his expertise to select the proper alloy, condition and surface treatment to meet the design requirements and manufacturing specifications. In 1991, he was recruited by Grimes Aerospace to help relocate their heat exchanger and exhaust duct facility to Ocala, Florida. The move required the re-qualification of the welding, heat treatment and other special process for the titanium, Inconel and stainless steel alloys. Greg worked with technical experts from Boeing, General Dynamics and the military to assure that these critical flight components met the aerospace and other military specifications. While in Ocala, he served as the Chairman the American Society for Quality. He began consulting and training employees for various manufacturing, healthcare and even educational organizations through his own company Crystal Vision, Inc. In 1998, Greg moved to St. Petersburg to work for Molex ETC and then L-3 Communications Scandia Technologies Division as their Director of Quality Assurance. He was instrumental in producing the conveyers used for the bomb detection systems in most major airports to an accelerated production schedule after 911. He worked in a program management role and was liaison to L-3 Coleman Aerospace to build the next generation of prototype scanner systems. While in this position, Greg was introduced to Peter and began utilizing the machining and fabrication facilities to manufacture the Seaspension pedestals in a higher volume. Greg also offered his laboratory expertise to perform the first impact tests on the pedestals to the ABYC standard. He continued to provide technical assistance to Seaspension until the time came to join with Peter full-time. His wife of eighteen years, Julie, works for Avantair in owner services resolving issues for their rich-n-famous customers. They are both members of Warehouse727, a non-denominational, praise and worship church in St. Petersburg where they live. Greg’s interests include Pontiac Firebirds, lapidary and rock collecting, NASCAR and the Tampa Bay Rays. You can reach Greg at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
