Most boat operators experience some form of discomfort, or may suffer mild to severe musculoskeletal injuries when navigating a high-speed craft. There have been numerous studies commissioned by governmental agencies and departments, which are directed towards studying the injuries sustained by shock forces while underway in marine vessels. It has become very evident that exposure to shock loads, either from repetitive jolts or from high impact single occurrences, is an increasing risk. There are more boats out there now, with the capability of going faster than ever before.

Any boat can generate high shock or vibration levels, particularly when operating in high sea states or at high speeds. Shock loads of 2-10 G’s (I G equals a persons body weight) are common in open water operations. Commercial boat operators, and other personnel like Homeland Security agents and Navy coxswains who spend a lot of time on the water, are particularly prone to injuries.

Exposure to either single occurrence or repetitive high shock loads can lead to sprains/strains, torn ligaments, broken ankles and legs, damaged vertebrae, damaged internal organs, as well as performance degradation due to fatigue. Increased awareness about these effects caused the European Union to release a Directive addressing those concerns, basically crafting legislation in order to protect the boater in his work environment from excessive shock and vibration.

“The product helps alleviate knee, back and neck pain for boaters who spend even the slightest amount of time in rough waters”, said inventor Peter Burer, who has spent the last 10 years developing shock mitigating products.

Now you can get the same race tested performance, which also has been in Canadian Coast Guard duty since 2003 and logging 500-600 hrs/year on single pedestals and be able to afford it to put in your own boat. As boaters, we are all aware that comfort and safety are sometimes threatened by rough seas, which force us to stand up and hang on. Seaspension® pedestals are engineered for maximum strength and comfort to absorb shock waves and pounding, therefore reducing boating fatigue. With unsurpassed value, comfort and quality, Seaspension® allows you to sit down and enjoy the ride!
