Recently, we had the honor of helping one such individual—a customer from Hawaii who showed incredible bravery during the devastating Lahaina fire.
As we pass the first anniversary of the Lahaina fire in Maui, we want to share the heroic story of our amazing customer Capt. Chrissy Lovitt. The Lahaina fire was a catastrophic event that devastated the community, leaving many without homes and businesses. Among those affected was the remarkable boat captain, Chrissy, who lost her vessel in the fire and became a beacon of hope for others.
Amidst the danger, Chrissy jumped into high gear by grabbing the nearest skiff and pulling several adults and children out of the water to safety before attempting to turn around and save her boat. The skiff motor cut out in 100 mph winds, leaving her adrift while watching the harbor become engulfed in flames and explosions. Tragically, she lost a truck, three boats, and her boating business during the disaster. However, the boat engine dying undoubtedly saved Chrissy’s life by preventing her from going back in. She and her wife opened their home during the aftermath to welcome others who had lost theirs.
When this courageous captain reached out to us to replace her lost Seaspension pedestal, we knew we couldn’t let her pay for it. We sent her a new pedestal and slider at no charge, as a small gesture of gratitude for the incredible heroism she displayed during such a tragic time. It was the least we could do for someone who had given so much of herself to help others.
"We were deeply moved by her bravery and wanted to support her in any way we could,” stated owner Ian Milligan. Chrissy's response was heartwarming: “Thank you, thank you for helping me get my replacement boat up to par… and for saving my back! I love the pedestal!"
This story isn’t just about a pedestal; it’s about the strength and resilience of the human spirit. Despite the tremendous loss she faced, Chrissy chose to focus on helping others. Her courage and selflessness are truly inspiring, and we are humbled to have played a small part in her journey.
